Phil and the Crown
Phil knew Paul's writings. Today, as Paul taught in a letter sent to the church in Corinth, Phil went to receive his crown, not made by man but presented to him by God. In 1 Corinthians 9:25b Paul assures us that it is worthwhile to live as God encourages us to. Paul says 'we do it to get a crown that will last forever'. Phil has lived well, loving God and others, and has victoriously finished the race. He led his house in the way of the Lord and will forever be blessed for that. Phil peacefully left his mortal body and it's ailments behind this afternoon. He was surrounded by a loving crowd of witnesses-family and friends. We have much to care for still: A family in mourning and yet joyful that, as Chelle is saying, Phil "is dancing in heaven now". Please remember Kathy, Joe and Chelle in your prayers and in your activities in the weeks to come. We love you Phil, we will miss you from today until that glorious day when we meet again. You the teacher, and us, your students.- Rod

Sunday Visits

Well, Phil and Kathy have been blessed with many visitors. Just what they wanted. Ask and you shall receive :) There were several who came by on Sunday to visit, bring some food and supplies, play games, pray, and a small gaggle even brought along instruments and communion for an informal Sunday evening service. Phil was wide awake, alert, and full of good humor for the first half hour or so. After that, he kind of dozed and waked his way through the rest of the visit. We talked together, prayed together, sang together, listened to some of Pastor Dave's thoughts (and Bible readings) about communion together and then we broke the bread and drank the "wine" (Patty opted to bring grape juice, as she wasn't sure if Phil could have wine) in remembrance of all that Christ has lovingly done, is doing, and will do to ensure that we get to spend eternity with Him. At one point, after a song, we asked Phil if he had anything he wanted to say. His answer? An emphatic, "Keep going!" So, Tanner and Rod, played on. Sweet.Sunday, January 4, 2009
At Home
We got home Friday night around 8:30pm. The hospice nurse was there about a half hour later with pain meds, which was good. Phil has been sleeping a lot, but when he is awake, he is alert and can hold a conversation for a bit. Then it is back to sleep. The doctors gave me a short window and Phil does not care to know about that. I am letting people know so you will have time to see him before he goes home to be with Jesus. You can sign up on the care calendar or give me a call and let me know you are coming. He likes visitors! :)
Thanks for all the prayers and support. We are truly blessed by the people we know and even those we don't know.
God Bless all of you!

Dec. 30, Kathy Says...
Thanks for all the prayers and support and we look forward to seeing whoever makes it over when we get home and settled. It is still looking like Friday will be the day to leave the hospital for the last time. We will miss all the wonderful nurses. They have given us such great care, even me. May they be blessed. When I have more to update I will. Phil is doing good. He sleeps mostly. Love to you all and God Bless!Love Kathy
New Year's Day update

Phil and Poseidon. Phil and Poseidon's stunt double.
It still looks like Friday, Phil will get to go home- hopefully by 3pm or so. Before he leaves Legacy Good Samaritan, he will have a catheter placed so they can drain off fluid at home and keep him more comfortable. Hospice will possibly be on hand on Friday afternoon to get things set up at the house. Starting Saturday, Kathy says they would love to have visitors anytime between 10am and 8pm! Please call Kathy before heading over, though just to make sure they're really up for it.
